Why aren't more Americans traveling abroad?

I've been trying to find out how many Americans travel abroad each year, and I haven't got that number yet. What I did find out is, however, that about 1 in 4 Americans has an active passport. That is roughly about 60 million Americans.

In comparison, 40% of all Canadians have passports and 64% of British citizens have active passports.

Why is this the case? Why aren't Americans trying abroad? What are the reasons? Money, time, fear, no interest? I am very curious about this questions... please share your comments!

I think has to do with many things like fear; no time and don't like to leave comfort of home. I wish I will convey every one to explore like my family doing. There are so many things to see and experience each culture. I am so glad I am doing now because when I get old I may have plenty of time but then my legs may not work and I may not have energy so everyone do it when possible because you never know.

Thanks for your comment. I do think its true that Americans don't travel because they are afraid, but also its not emphasized and celebrated in our culture nor our work environment the way it is in other countries.
